'''Decatur Highway''' is an older name for the portion of what is now [[U.S. Highway 31]] as it leads north from [[Birmingham]] through [[Fultondale]], [[Gardendale]], [[Morris]], [[Kimberly]], [[Warrior]], and beyond toward Decatur in Morgan County. The section of the highway in the Gardendale city limits runs through the eastern side of the city and was the main north-south thoroughfare until [[I-65]] was opened in the mid-1980's.

On [[February 20]], [[2001]] the portion of [[U.S. Highway 31]] in northern Jefferson County extending from the southern boundary of the city of Gardendale north to the Blount/Jefferson County line was designated as '''Jack Biddle Highway''' in appreciation of [[Jack Biddle|Biddle]]’s exemplary service to the people of [[Alabama Senate District 17]] and to the State of Alabama.
