The East Lake Arts District is a concept created in 2005 by East Lake resident Asher Morton-Maystein to promote the area as a community for artists and musicians to live and create. An East End Arts Association began meeting in 2009 and is encouraging community-wide participation through social media.

Specific projects include Musician's Hollow, a cluster of homes sharing an alley which could host regular weekend outdoor concerts, a Purple House Parade, an East Lake Crime Watch and a proposed Druid Hollow Park at the site of the former Cascade Plunge swimming pool.

Other activities include bringing artists to the East Lake Farmer's Market and promoting the slogan "Keep East Lake Weird".
