Hewitt-Trussville Junior High was a 500-student junior high in the Jefferson County School System that fed into Hewitt-Trussville High School. Originally constructed in 1964, HTJH occupied four buildings adjacent to the Cahaba Homestead Village at 601 Parkway Drive in Trussville. A classroom annex was later constructed in 1987 adjacent to the original structure. The school carried both eighth and ninth grades.
Due to its close proximity to the Cahaba River, in 1998 a sinkhole began to form at the western end of the school. Its formation resulted in the initial demolition of the school's library and cafeteria in 1999. A temporary library and cafeteria were placed in a pair of portable classrooms located in the main driveway.
By fall 2002 the school was no longer in use as the ninth grade was moved to Hewitt-Trussville High School and the eighth grade was moved to Hewitt-Trussville Middle School. In 2005 all but the rear annex and gymnasium were demolished by Tomlin Excavating & Demolition of Tarrant.
Currently the remaining structure is used as classrooms for the Trussville Police Department. Additionally, the baseball stadium on the eastern end of the grounds is also still in use.
