Hillside Homes is a 200-unit public housing community on 35th Street South in Bessemer.

In November 2009, 150 units were demolished, and renovations began on the 50 remaining units. The $5.5 million renovation project, completed in September 2011 was funded with $2 million from federal stimulus money and the rest coming from the capital fund of the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. A second phase to add mixed-income housing is planned on the site of the demolished units, but as of February 2011 was unfunded.
