Integrated Medical Systems
Integrated Medical Systems International, Inc. (IMS) is a consulting and management firm specializing in maintaining surgical instruments for medical clients. The company tests, repairs and refurbishes medical equipment and provides management, training and planning services to hospitals and clinic.
IMS was founded in 1991 by Gene Robinson, who is President and CEO of the privately-held company. Its first offices were located on Morris Avenue. IMS now has annual revenues of more than $80 million and more than 600 employees at its IMS Corporate Campus in the emerging Sloss Business District. The company also operates repair centers in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Phoenix, Arizona.
The company announced plans to consolidate its Birmingham operations in 2010. The $7.5 million development involves renovations to its existing repair building and to the adjacent former Noland Building, as well as construction of new facility for its subsidiary Wedge Manufacturing, which carries out high-precision machining. Robinson's non-profit Instruments of Mercy will also have space at IMS' campus.
The project could be part of a Sloss Business Park proposed for the area by Operation New Birmingham.
