He was named SIAC coach of the year four times. In [[2021]] Miles' golf team won the PGA WORKS Division II Collegiate Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

Leonard Smoot Jr (born c. 1961 in Flint, Michigan) is a former Marine and head golf coach for the Miles College Golden Bears.

Smoot was the oldest child of Leonard and Mildred Smoot, who had moved to Michigan from Sumter County, Alabama and he frequently visited relatives in Collegeville along with his younger sister, Shelia.
