Mabe Power Equipment

Mabe Power Equipment Center was a hardware store, lawn and garden equipment retailer, and lawn equipment repair shop located at 219 Main Street in Trussville. Opened February 1921, it was the oldest business in Trussville when it closed on April 30, 2012.

The business originally opened in 1921 as a service station and garage. In 1990 the name was changed from Mabe Garage and Lawn Mower Repair because they had moved away from automotive repair. Kathy Mabe Kennedy, owner with her husband since 2007, was the third generation in her family to own the business. The 2003 Cahaba River flood caused extensive damage to the building, which was repaired, but business suffered. Recent drought years and the Great Recession saw sales and repairs drop as well, and led to the Kennedy's decision to close in 2012.
