Mark S. Schantz (born c. 1955) is a professor of history and former interim president of Birmingham-Southern College.
Schantz earned his bachelor of arts at George Washington University in Washington D.C. in 1977 and a masters of divinity from Yale University in 1981. He completed his Ph.D. in history at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1991.
After completing his doctorate, Schantz served as associate provost and professor of history at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. He joined the BSC faculty in 2009 as provost and professor of history. After the departure of David Pollick in August 2010 he was named interim president of the college, serving through July 2011.
Schantz has published two books, Piety in Providence: The Class Dimensions of Religious Experience in Antebellum Rhode Island, and Awaiting the Heavenly Country: The Civil War and America's Culture of Death.
