The Protective Life building is a 135,000 square-foot office building constructed in 1976 just south of Mountain Brook's Office Park for the Protective Life Corporation, which moved from its former downtown headquarters. It is now "Building 1" of the 28-acre Protective Center campus.
Architects Welton, Becket & Associates of Houston, Texas designed the mirrored-glass clad building on a hilltop site overlooking U. S. Highway 280. Zion and Breen of New York, New York prepared the landscape design that separated the offices from its parking lots across a landscaped courtyard.
