Redeemer Community Church was founded in 2008 by the Rev. Joel Brooks. Redeemer is a non-denominational church. Early in its history it partnered with the Louisville, Kentucky-based Sojourn Network (later the Harbor Network). Brooks originally held services in his own home, later the church worshiped at Girls Incorporated in Crestwood, and the Cornerstone School in Woodlawn. In 2014 Redeemer moved from Woodlawn the 1914 sanctuary of South Avondale Baptist Church on 4022 4th Avenue South in Avondale. The congregation expanded rapidly after moving to Avondale, eventually having to hold four Sunday services.

During the Covid-19 Pandemic, Redeemer held worship services in parking garage of Trinity Montclair Hospital
