On April 16, 1978, the home of Carl and Annelle Bishop of Rock Mountain Lakes was the site of the first worship service of Rock Mountain Lakes Baptist Mission. The message was presented by Dr. John Smith. Following that service an offer was extended to Herbert Thrasher to become mission pastor and to assist in the organization of a community church. He accepted.

On August 26, 1979, ground was broken for Rock Mountain Lakes Baptist Mission at 904 Colmart Drive (now Rock Mountain Lakes Road). On December 30, 1979, the completed basement was the site of the first worship service.

On November 30, 1980, the First Baptist Church of Rock Mountain Lakes was chartered with nine-four members.

In August 1980 Frank Nelson became the first music and youth director.

On April 18, 1984, Brother Thrasher met with church leaders and told them that he was resigning because the church needed a full-time pastor. On August 12, 1984, the church accepted Derek Gentile as its pastor.

On May 13, 1986, the First Baptist Church of Rock Mountain Lakes was incorporated as Rock Mountain Lakes Baptist Church.

On February 1, 1987, Tom Terry became the new pastor. He presided over the building of a new sanctuary. The first services in the new building were held in February 1988.

Presently, Jason Dollar is the pastor of Rock Mountain Lakes Baptist Church.
