Roosevelt Bell

Roosevelt Bell, Sr (born 1926 - died January 5, 2003) was a member of the Birmingham City Council, elected to an at-large seat in the 1985 Birmingham City Council election, and then returning as representative of District 8 in the 1989 election. He was narrowly re-elected in 1993 beating challenger Bernard Kincaid by only 31 votes. Kincaid won the seat in the 1997 Birmingham City Council election.

Bell is a graduate of Morehouse College. He was a long-time community activist, serving as president of the Bush Hills neighborhood and vice president of the Central Park-Five Points West community. He worked for several federal agencies and retired from the Social Security Administration. He also served on the board of directors of the Birmingham Airport Authority from 1986 to 1998.

Bell died of natural causes while cooking breakfast for his wife, Queen, at their home on Bush Boulevard. He was also survived by his son Roosevelt Jr and daughter Janice. Neighbors dedicated the street in his memory later that year with a ceremony at Alma Dennis Park.
