Planning by the American Lutheran Church for a new congregation in north [[Shelby County]] began in [[1980]]. Pastor [[Jeffery Alvestad]] began work as pastor/developer in October [[1987]]. In January [[1989]], the current site was purchased and Alvestad was officially installed as pastor of Shepherd of the Hills on [[June 10]], [[1990]]. By this time the American Lutheran Church had joined the newly-formed Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America located at 4887 Valleydale Road.

Planning by the American Lutheran Church for a new congregation in north Shelby County began in 1980. Pastor Jeffery Alvestad began work as pastor/developer in October 1987. In January 1989, the current site was purchased and Alvestad was officially installed as pastor of Shepherd of the Hills on June 10, 1990. By this time the American Lutheran Church had joined the newly-formed Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Construction began in September 1994 and a service of dedication held on May 14, 1995.
