The Heritage of Jefferson County, Alabama is a 960-page book published in 2002 by David and Alice Bice's Heritage Publishing Consultants (now Heritage Books) as the 37th volume in their 70-part Heritage of Alabama Series.

The book consists of a large number of biographical, genealogical and historical sketches of individuals, families, settlements, cemeteries, institutions, businesses and landmarks in Jefferson County which were compiled by a "Jefferson County Heritage Book Committee". The committee solicited contributions from individuals of 500 words or less, along with a photograph, to be considered for inclusion. Histories of churches, businesses or other important institutions were granted up to 750 words. Those with family histories in the county going back before 1890 were allowed 1,000 words and 2 photographs.

The committee, chaired by Marshall Page, offered assistance in editing material for submission, and also organized and indexed all submissions for publication. Most individual articles cite sources of information, often noted simply as "family history". The deadline for submissions was September 30, 1999. After publication, the committee sought to deposit copies of the book at all public libraries in the county.

The Heritage of Jefferson County, Alabama is the most-used single resource at the Birmingham Public Library's Southern History Department in the Linn-Henley Research Library.
