Tom Henderson (born c. 1939 in Gadsden) is the first and only Mayor of Center Point, now in his fifth term since taking office at the city's incorporation in 2002. He had previously retired as Director of Athletics for Jefferson State Community College.
Henderson earned his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in education from the University of Alabama. He retired after 40 years of coaching and teaching, inducted in 2000 into the Alabama Junior College Athletic Hall of Fame. He was elected in the first Center Point mayoral election held on April 23, 2002 and re-elected to full four-year terms in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016.
Henderson serves on board of directors of the Eastern Area Health Services Foundation and on the administrative board of Center Point United Methodist Church, where he also teaches Sunday school. He and his wife, Betty, have two children and five grandchildren.
