The UAB Alma Mater is an anthem sung at formal events representing UAB. A contest was held in the Summer of 2003 to solicit original compositions, with a $250 prize for the winning entry. A selection committee was made up of students, faculty and staff. Three finalists were arranged for the UAB Concert Choir and performed for final selection made by the committee and president Carol Garrison.
The winning entry was submitted by David McNeeley.
Here in Alabama, a place of rich diversity,
stands our Alma Mater. We cherish her integrity.
May each loyal son and daughter wear
proudly the colors green and gold.
Praise to thee, our UAB. Her honor we uphold.
Yearning minds of age and youth
live and love her noble truth.
Moving ahead with blazing speed
t'wards knowledge to empow'r,
in the heart of Birmingham our UAB stands proud.
