The UAB Recording Studio was founded by Dr. Henry Panion, UAB University Professor and former chair of the UAB Department of Music. This state-of-the-art facility was built for the purpose of training UAB Music Technology majors, and for recording projects which are fostered by UAB Department of Music professors.

Since its inception, the UAB Recording studio has produced numerous high quality recordings by performing ensembles such as Tekneek, a professional smooth jazz band; UAB Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Ray Reach; the UAB Gospel Choir, under the direction of Kevin Turner; and the UAB Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Jeff Reynolds.
