The Walter Schoel Engineering Company is a professional engineering firm founded in 1888 by former Elyton Land Company surveyor Herman Schoel. The firm, which provides civil, hydrologic and environmental engineering, surveying and laser scanning, is currently headed by Walter Schoel III. Its offices are located at 1001 22nd Street South.

Walter Schoel, Sr joined his father's firm in the 1920s and became president in 1939. His own sons, Walter Jr and Joseph Schoel came on board the following year. The firm was incorporated in 1965 with Walter Schoel, Jr as president. Walter III joined in the late 1980s, became a vice-president in 1993, and assumed the presidency in 1998.

Walter Schoel Engineering Company has been involved in countless major public and private development projects across the Birmingham area. The firm was inducted into the Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame in 2007.
