Whiskeytown or Whiskey Town was an unincorporated area just east of Bessemer and north of Lipscomb which thrived as a district of saloons, shothouses, gambling dens and brothels during periods when liquor sales were subject to local prohibition.

Those prohibitions were removed in the late 1890s, allowing a new rush of saloons to open in the center of Bessemer.
