El Paso Wildflower Preserve is a gated preserve developed by the Freshwater Land Trust on a 51-acre tract behind Wildwood Centre which opened in 2012. It was funded and named for El Paso Corporation, through its affiliate, Southern Natural Gas.
El Paso was looking for a environmental project in the Homewood area and inquired of the Freshwater Land Trust, which had owned the land since 2001. El Paso offered $35,000 to develop the area as a preserve. Features include a 6,000-foot walking trail, benches, and foot bridges across the property's two streams. It is estimated that 15 to 20 species of wildflower and trees are in the area.
