Originally founded in 1954 as Junior Achievement of Greater Birmingham, Junior Achievement of Alabama is part of a global non-profit organization that helps youth and young adults gain practical experience in the areas of personal finance and entrepreneurship. In the early days of the program, groups of 8-15 youths would design a small product, raise a modest amount of capital, buy materials, manufacture and sell the product, and keep the books.
