Rock Creek (ZIP code 35023) is a 3 square-mile unincorporated community of 1,456 persons centered on the intersection of Warrior River Road / Lock 17 Road with Taylors Ferry Road, west of Concord in western Jefferson County. It is named for the Rock Creek stream which flows from Pleasant Grove westward, north of the community, then bends south to join Valley Creek.

The community is served by Concord Elementary School and the Concord Fire Department. The area suffered damage from the 1998 Oak Grove tornado.

Demographics

As of the Census of 2010, there were 1,456 people, 576 households, and 447 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 490 people per square mile. There were 615 housing units at an average density of 205 per square mile. The racial makeup of the CDP was 98% White and 1% Black.

There were 576 households out of which 28% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63% were married couples living together, 10% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22% were non-families. 19% of all households were made up of individuals and 8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 2.90.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $43,370, and the median income for a family was $44,321. Males had a median income of $44,500 versus $38,244 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $19,878. About 8.4% of families and 8.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.0% of those under age 18 and 0% of those age 65 or over.
