He has been president of BIS since 1989. Originally from Karachi, Pakistan he moved to the United States in 1975 to attend the University of Texas at Arlington. There he received a degree in mechanical engineering. Upon graduating he went to work as a mechanical engineer. The company he worked for in Augusta, Georgia relocated him to Birmingham, Alabama in 1989.  


Taufique attended a Catholic missionary school in Karachi. He moved to the United States in January [[1975]] to attend the University of Texas at Arlington. There he received a degree in mechanical engineering. Upon graduating he went to work as a mechanical engineer. The company he worked for in Augusta, Georgia relocated him to [[Birmingham]] in [[1989]].
In addition to the Birmingham Islamic Society, Taufique also served on the board of [[Greater Birmingham Ministries]]. In [[2017]] he was named to the inaugural class of [[Leadership Hoover]].
Taufique and his wife, Rita, have four children and nine grandchildren.

Ashfaq Hussain Taufique (born c. 1950 in Karachi, Pakistan) is a retired mechanical engineer and was for decades after 1989 president of the Birmingham Islamic Society. He is now president emeritus.

Taufique attended a Catholic missionary school in Karachi. He moved to the United States in January 1975 to attend the University of Texas at Arlington. There he received a degree in mechanical engineering. Upon graduating he went to work as a mechanical engineer. The company he worked for in Augusta, Georgia relocated him to Birmingham in 1989.
