Berney Points Baptist Church was Baptist congregation located first in West End at 1637 Pearson Avenue SW and then in Hoover at 2250 Blue Ridge Boulevard alongside I-65 near the crest of Shades Mountain. Initially begun as West End Baptist Mission by Rev. George Johnson, the congregation was organized on August 8, 1926 and ground broken for the first church building the same year. By 1941 the church had a membership of 387. The church's colonial revival building on Pearson Avenue was erected in 1952 at the cost of $269,000. An educational building windg was completed in 1956
