Birmingham Sailing Club was founded in June 1963 with 44 charter members, prior to the creation of Lake Logan Martin. The club house, docks, and launch ramps were constructed in fall 1963, and on July 16, 1964 the water reached the bottom of the first launch ramp.

The club is a not for profit organization located on 9 acres of land about 2 miles of Logan Martin Dam. The club has numerous one design and open regattas every year, as well as hosting the Leukemia Cup Regatta.

Current One design fleets include Snipes, Thistles, Flying Scots, and J22s.
