The Friends of American Art is one of five support groups at the Birmingham Museum of Art.

The Friends of American Art was founded in 2007 by Graham Boettcher, the Museum's William Cary Hulsey Curator of American Art. The group is co-chaired by Billy Hulsey and Millie Hulsey. The group actively works to develop and expand the Museum’s American art collection. The Society also provides educational programs and travel opportunities to its members. These events include lectures by leading experts and visits to auctions, galleries, and noted public and private collections. At the Friends’ annual dinner, members vote on a major acquisition for the Museum’s permanent collection of American art.
