The Jefferson County Mayors Association serves as a network of all the mayors in Jefferson County to act as a sounding board for each other. At monthly meetings, the mayors discuss a variety of issues, including how their cities are being affected by the current economic climate.

In December 2008 the association hired an executive director, Kenny Clemons, former mayor of Gardendale, in a move meant to strengthen the organization's influence and improve its service to mayors, the association's president said. A legislative effort from the association to revamp the Personnel Board was a catalyst for creating the position, said Gary Richardson, the association's president and the mayor of Midfield.
