The Vulcan Historical Review is an annual history journal produced by students at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. It is sponsored by the Chi Omicron chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society, and the UAB School of Behavioral and Social Sciences.
Founded in 1997, the review is named for Giuseppe Moretti's statue of Vulcan, which has symbolized Birmingham since 1904. Articles for the review are by UAB students and alumni and may be on any historical topic. Many issues contain original research on the history of Birmingham and Jefferson County.
The Vulcan placed second in the 2006 nationwide Phi Alpha Theta student history journal competition.
Copies of the review were given away in the UAB History Department office in Ullman Hall. In 2007 the Vulcan was also offered for sale at Blazer Bookstore at UAB and at Little Professor Bookstore in Homewood.
