The Housing Authority of the City of Bessemer is the public agency responsible for administering federally-funded housing policy in the city of Bessemer, including public housing projects as well as Section 8 vouchers for low-income renters in the city. As of 2024 the authority serves about 3,000 residents.
The authority's headquarters office is located at 1515 Fairfax Avenue adjacent to the Thompson Manor public housing community. Its executive director is Cortney Coleman.
In 2024 the authority announced plans to construct a 3-story, 13,500 square-foot "Dream Center" next to its offices, which would provide space for recreation and athletic competitions, as well as meetings, performances, workshops and events.
