The Birmingham Presbytery was a regional body of the Presbyterian Church in the United States (PCUS) (i.e., the "Southern Presbyterian Church"). The Birmingham churches placed in it were previously part of the Presbytery of North Alabama.

In the 1960s a separate presbytery for African American congregations, the Central Alabama Presbytery was disbanded and its congregations joined the Birmingham Presbytery.

After the PCUS reunited with the United Presbyterian Church in the USA in 1983 to form the Presbyterian Church (USA), the presbyteries of the denominations merged as well. In 1988 geographical boundaries were redrawn and Birmingham-area churches became part of the Presbytery of Sheppards and Lapsley.
