Crisis Center is a free 24-hour telephone crisis counseling service with offices at 3620 8th Avenue South in the Highland Office Park in Forest Park-South Avondale. Its executive director is Meg McGlamery.

The service, which answers around 35,000 calls each year, is run by 45 staff members and more than 180 volunteers who are trained to assist individuals with crises involving substance misuse, mental illness, suicide intervention/prevention, and sexual assaults. It is accredited by the American Association of Suicidology, the International Counsel for Help Lines, and Alabama Coalition Against Rape. In addition to two primary telephone lines, the Crisis Center has separate lines for youth and seniors, and for sexual assaults and substance abuse.

The center was founded in September 1970 solely as a suicide hotline and was originally housed at Birmingham City Hall. In 1973 the center began receiving sustaining support and office space from the United Way of Central Alabama.
