Marie Leech

Marie Leech is managing editor of Birmingham Business Journal.

Leech earned her bachelor of arts in journalism at Auburn University in 1999 while working assignments for the Shelby County Reporter. She moved to California in 2000 to begin working as an urban affairs reporter for The Desert Sun in Palm Springs. In 2002 she began covering education for the Pasadena Star-News, and in 2003 returned to Alabama as lead education reporter for The Birmingham News.

Leech left the News and began writing freelance in 2014. In 2023 she was hired by the Birmingham Business Journal as managing editor.

Leech and her husband, accountant John Santamour, have three children.
