Sailmaker Restaurant

Captain Ray's Sailmaker was a theme restaurant located at 1041 Montgomery Highway in Vestavia Hills.

The menu featured steaks and seafood, as well as a 21-item salad bar. Servers wore costumes and included in-character performances among their duties.

The restaurant was part of a chain operated by the casual dining division of Shoney's.

After it closed, manager Kim Meriwether and his wife Wanda opened La Cocina Mexican restaurant.
