The Jimmy Morgan statue is a 1 1/4 to 1 1/2-times life-size bronze portrait bust of former Mayor of Birmingham Jimmy Morgan. It was commissioned in 1961 from sculptor Georges Bridges by a group of Morgan's friends for display at the Birmingham Zoo in honor of Morgan's leadership in developing the popular attraction.
The bust was placed on a 52-inch tall limestone or marble pedestal in front of the donor's wall at the zoo. It was dedicated on June 25, 1961.
