Brummitt Heights is a neighborhood in Birmingham's Airport Hills community. It is located north of Tarrant-Huffman Road and borders the Pine Knoll Vista and Penfield Park neighborhoods west of Bryant Avenue and Airport Road, respectively. Much of the neighborhood lies within the ravine of a creek running from the rim of North Lake toward Five Mile Creek.
Historically the community, also called Tarrant Heights, extended eastward into the present municipality of Tarrant. The neigbborhood's hills were first populated by black workers from nearby quarries on Huntsville Road and at Ketona in the late 1800s. More workers came after the National Cast Iron Pipe Company opened its plant. Lily Baptist Church was organized in the vicinity in 1915. The Girl Scouts of America operated the 59-acre Camp Blossom Hill for black girls in Brummitt Heights in the 1940s and 1950s.
Parts of the community were annexed into Tarrant in the 1970s. Much of that part of the neighborhood was affected by the re-routing of Alabama State Highway 79.
The neighborhood is represented in Birmingham City Council District 2. Thereathea Montgomery is president of the Brummitt Heights Neighborhood Association and Minnie Hall is secretary.
