The Southside Rag was an alternative newspaper published in Birmingham in 1970. The first issue was distributed during a free concert at Avondale Park on July 19, 1970. According to a letter published in The Great Speckled Bird, "several really heavy things [depended] on the success of The Rag," including "the fate of a drug rehabilitation commune and... the success of several new freak-operated community shops selling locally produced stuff."
