Father Richard Donohoe is the rector of the Cathedral of Saint Paul in Birmingham. He was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts and attended Oglethorpe University in Atlanta and the University of the South in Sewanee.

Donohoe was raised in the Episcopal Church and ordained as an Episcopal priest before converting to Catholicism in 1980. He was ordained by Pope John Paul II in 1984. He served previously in Anniston before coming to Birmingham, where, in addition to serving the Cathedral as Rector he is CEO and Vicar of the Catholic Diocese of Birmingham.

Donohoe has a lifelong interest in the theological underpinnings of J.R.R. Tolkein's Lord of the Rings fantasy novels, a topic on which he has enjoyed some recent celebrity.
