• May 8, 1998: Tracy Lee Phillips was shot to death by John Russell "Cody" Calhoun during an invasion of his home on Coffee Street in Talladega. Mrs Phillips was subsequently raped at gunpoint and the ir daughter and a friend were locked into a bedroom. Calhoun was convicted and sentenced to death.
