PNC Bank is the banking division of The PNC Financial Services Group, a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based company which acquired BBVA, the Houston, Texas-based US division of Spain's Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, for $11.6 billion in June 2021. BBVA accounts were transitioned to PNC Bank by October of that year.

With the acquisition, PNC became the 5th largest bank in the United States with $560 billion in assets.

In addition to operating former BBVA branches in the Birmingham District, PNC Bank maintains a heavy technology presence at its Birmingham Technology Center. The bank also operates technology centers in Pittsburgh and Cleveland, Ohio. Local operations are overseen by Nick Willis, president of PNC's Northern and Central Alabama division since 2017.
