- 2006: The Birmingham News moved into its new building.
- 2002: The Steeldogs won their second-round match-up 53-34 against the top-ranked Tulsateam, handing the Talons their first home loss in 18 years. This qualified the Steeldogs for a home game against the Peoria Pilots for the af2 championship.
- 1949: Perennial Democratic Jefferson County Sheriff candidate and dispatcher Ron McGuffie was born.
