- September 11: Lynn Edwards Angell, Birmingham native, librarian, is killed in the hijacking of American Airlines Flight 11.
- September 11: Bill Godshalk, University of Alabama alumnus, accountant, is killed in his office in Building 2 of the World Trade Center during the terrorist attacks.
