Burges Asbury Thompson, (1850-1922), was Mayor of Birmingham from 1888-1890. He succeeded Judge A. O. Lane and was followed by David J. Fox. He was in office during the dramatic events following the Hawes murders.

Thompson was the eldest son of Jesse Thompson, who came to the city at its founding in 1871 and the brother of T. C. Thompson, founder and owner of the Siluria Cotton Mill in Shelby County.
