Birmingham Citizen's Advisory Board
The Birmingham Citizen's Advisory Board (CAB) is the highest body operating as part of the Birmingham Citizen Participation Plan, first implemented (as the Birmingham Community Participation Program) in 1974. As designed, the board meets quarterly with the Mayor of Birmingham and Birmingham City Council, and as-needed with the heads of the various city departments.
The board is made up of the 23 presidents of Birmingham's Community Advisory Committees, which, in turn, represent the 99 Neighborhood Associations. The group held its first monthly public meeting in February 1975 and began the task of planning distribution of the city's first $5 million Community Development Block Grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The board is responsible for communicating its discussions and actions with the various neighborhood associations.
The current Birmingham Citizen Participation Plan was adopted on June 27, 1995. In 2012 the CAB and City Council initiated parallel efforts to rewrite the city's Community Participation Plan.
The current president is Darrell O'Quinn. Vice-president is Myeisha Hutchinson and secretary is Adrienne Reynolds.
