Carl B. Salter was a display sales manager for Sears and a self-taught artist, known for his paintings of Birmingham landmarks.

Salter grew up in Georgiana. He taught himself to paint in oil, watercolor and acrylic media. He maintained a studio at his home at 5617 10th Avenue South in Crestwood and exhibited as a member of the Birmingham Art Association, Vestavia Hills Art Association, and Mountain Brook Art Association.

Salter was honored as "Mr Crestwood" in 1959.
