Carolyn Burgess Featheringill is a teacher and a lawyer. She was the wife of entrepreneur Bill Featheringill, who passed away in 2012.

She graduated in 1969 from the University of Virginia’s law school and became a member of the College’s Board of Trustees in 2007. She spent several years practicing with the largest law firm in Alabama. Featheringill left her law practice when she was expecting her daughter Elizabeth and had planned to spend more time raising her family with her husband, Bill. However, a temporary faculty position became available at the Cumberland Law School at Samford University and this soon turned into a full-time position, one that Featheringill held until retiring as a professor of law 24 years later.

Featheringill has also been an active volunteer in her community, serving as chairwoman of the State Public Affairs Committee and volunteering with the Junior League. She has been equally involved in her alma mater, serving as alumnae chapter president, district director, and ultimately as Alumnae Association president in the 1990s.

She and her husband were particularly interested in the growth and success of UAB’s cardiovascular program. They created the Featheringill Endowed Chair in Cardiac Arrhythmia Research and made significant gifts to the UAB Comprehensive Cardiovascular Center.
