Cooper Green Parking Deck

The Cooper Green Parking Deck was a 3-story public parking deck located at 1401–1433 6th Avenue South adjacent to Cooper Green Hospital in the Birmingham Medical District. It was built in 1974 in conjunction with Cooper Green Hospital and had 915 parking spaces. It was owned by Jefferson County and operated by the Birmingham Parking Authority.

The deck covered the entire Block 182, bounded by 6th and 7th Avenue South and by 14th and 15th Street South, though 15th Street is closed between the parking deck and former hospital building.

In 2022 the parking deck was demolished to make way for construction of a new clinical services facility for the Cooper Green Mercy Health Services Authority on part of the block. For the remainder of the block, UAB has proposed to build a new 405,000 square-foot, 1,200-space parking parking deck for $32 million.
