Cornerstone Ranch

Cornerstone Ranch is a non-profit Christian organization focused on helping young people. It is located at 4300 Powder Mill Road in Gardendale. The camp spans 1,200 acres and includes an 80-acre lake and five smaller ponds.

The goals of the ranch are to develop self-esteem, character, and faith in the lives of young men and women. This is accomplished through a combination of faith-based sessions and recreational activities.

History

The land where the ranch is located had been abandoned since the mid-1970s, when DuPont Corporation closed their powder plant in the Mineral Springs area. Cornerstone purchased the site on Dec. 31, 2008 in what was considered a sale and a donation. The former Cane Creek Branch rail line passed through the western edge of the ranch property. The Brookside portion of the Five Mile Creek Greenway was rerouted slightly to avoid going through the ranch property.

The camp was founded by Jake Chemell, Josh Nation, Jimmy Nation and Rusty Rouse. Rouse also serves as executive director.

In 2011, the Gardendale Rotary Club provided the funds to construct a pavilion at the Ranch.

In doing so we commend the work of Cornerstone Ranch and their purpose in reaching and touching the lives of the youth in our area.
