Enon Ridge Trail
The Enon Ridge Trail was among the first segments of the Red Rock Ridge and Valley Trail System's Village Creek Blueway to be developed. It was formerly known as the Dorothy Spears Greenway, it runs along a former railroad bed parallel to Bankhead Highway, and it forms the southwestern edge of the Enon Ridge neighborhood. The trail also connects to the Birmingham Civil Rights Heritage Trail and Dorthy Spears Park. The trail was adopted by the Dynamite Hill-Smithfield Community Land Trust (DH-SCLT) in March 2018. Starting on the Saturday of Earth Week 2018, DH-SCLT began hosting an annual clean-up on the Enon Ridge Trail. In spring 2020, DH-SCLT, in collaboration with Friends of Dynamite Hill, began developing the Alexis Murphy "Murph" Memorial Guerilla Garden along the trail. This garden is made up of perennial herbs and flowers, fruit trees, and other perennial fruiting plants. This garden is phase I of developing a sustainable community food forest along the Enon Ridge Trail.
