Fat Sam's Sub Station is a sandwich shop located at 1154 11th Ave South in Glen Iris near the UAB campus. It was opened in March 1990 by Salman "Sam" Shatara.
Fat Sam's is open from 6:30 AM to 8:00 PM on weekdays and 11:00 to 5:00 on Saturdays. The restaurant's specialties include the "Kitchen Sink Sub" and "Fat Fries".
Shatara was badly injured in a vehicle accident in April 2016 and died a few weeks later.
