The facility, owned by entrepreneur Joe Ortega, features four 13-foot tall climbing structures, a yoga room, a screening room and art gallery at the facility. The development officially opened on August 1, 2009.

The facility specializes in "bouldering", a low-altitude technique where the climber ascends the face of a boulder or small rock face and has a crash pad to land on if the climber loses grip or footing. In 2011, Ortega began scouting locations for a second gym. The 14,000 square-foot Birmingham Boulders opened in 2016, as the second location in a chain now known as The Bouldering Authority.
